How to read a PDF out loud online
Open the Read Aloud Reader studio, click Upload file, and choose your PDF. The text is extracted into the reading pane, ready to be read aloud. Pick a voice and speed, press play, and each sentence is highlighted as the PDF is read out loud. On a Pro or Studio plan, download the reading as an MP3 to listen offline.
Text PDFs versus scanned PDFs
If you can select the words in your PDF with a mouse, it reads aloud instantly — essays, reports, textbooks, contracts, lecture notes. A scanned PDF is a photograph of pages with no real text inside, so no reader can speak it directly. The Studio plan reads scanned PDFs and photos of pages with OCR: it recognizes the text in the image first, then reads it like any other document.
Reading a PDF aloud on your phone

How do I read a PDF out loud online?

Can I read a PDF aloud for free?
Yes. The free tier reads up to 5,000 characters per day (20,000 per month), which covers short papers and articles. Longer documents fit the Pro and Studio plans, which also add MP3 export.
Why will my PDF not read aloud?
Almost always because it is a scanned PDF — a photo of pages with no real text inside. Test it: try to select a sentence with your mouse. If you cannot, the PDF needs OCR before any reader can speak it. Scanned-PDF reading is built into the Studio plan.
Can I save the PDF reading as an MP3?
Yes, on the Pro and Studio plans. The audio downloads as a standard MP3 file that plays in any podcast or music app, including with your phone's lock-screen controls.
Does it work for PDFs on my phone?
